Family History Research
So many of us are attempting to trace our family histories. Family History Research
must rank amongst the most popular hobbies today. You may already have gathered
together family papers, certificates, photographs and other memorabilia in an attempt
to piece together the history of your family with varying degrees of success. The
Internet has opened up a wonderful world of Family History Research to the amateur
genealogist with new sources becoming available on line each year but the Internet
has its limitations.
There are various reasons why you may decide to retain our services to help you
identify, clarify and verify the individuals who form your family tree.
Some Internet sources are incomplete or may contain inaccuracies. These sources
are a wonderful starting point but you may wish, in the case of Parish Registers
for example, to have the original Registers checked and copied. We can do this for
you.
You may have identified family members through the various Censuses but individuals
can be born and die within the space of the decade between one Census and the next.
We can locate the appropriate Parish Registers and ensure that family members aren’t
missed.
You may have hit a brick wall and be having difficulty with one particular individual,
again we can help you by researching Wills, Deeds, Trade Directories and local sources
to move your research on.
We can help you locate burial records, again examining the original Registers.
We can carry out Family History Research in both Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire
and beyond on your behalf and you can check the parishes in these counties on the
Nottinghamshire
and
Lincolnshire
Parish pages.
You can pay for as many or as few hours of research as you wish. All research is
carried out by a BA Hons Graduate. Click here for more details.
Old Postcards
Postcards as a resource for family history
The early picture postcards that survive form a rare resource for family historians
and some of these cards appear in our archive, we hope you enjoy both the pictures
and the messages.
You may be looking for old postcards showing the town your forebears came from,
the church they were baptised in, married or buried from. Perhaps the place where
they spent their honeymoon or went on holiday. The appropriate image can add another
dimension to your final research.
Sometimes it is even possible to find the street where they lived or worked. Additionally,
you may wish to check to see if our archive contains an old postcard sent to one
of your forebears or to someone bearing your family name. Our database allows you
to do all these things.
The postcards in the Digital History archive are from a private collection started
many years ago when a postcard album was given to my grandmother by her sister.
In turn my grandmother passed the album on to me when I was a teenager. This ignited
my intrest in Edwardian postcards and gradually more and more postcards were added
to my collection. Today some of these cards are extremely rare and it's good to
be able to share them with a wider audience.
All the images on this web site are reproduced from old postcards originally produced
from photographs taken between approximately 1890 and 1920 and you can view both
the back and front of every card. I hope you obtain as much pleasure from the images
of the postcards as I have done over the years.
The images on this web site are for viewing purposes only and do not portray the
quality of the finished item.
You can browse the old postcard database by
town
or search for a specific family
name
or simply search by postcard
type.
Our database contains images of both the front and backs of old postcards showing
views, buildings, towns, streets and churches all over the UK. You may find a picture
of the church your forebears were baptised in or married or buried from, or the
town or street where they lived or worked.
It is even possible that we have an old postcard that was sent to someone in your
family tree. Check the
names database,
you may be lucky! Failing that why not browse the full collection in the postcard
database?
Picture gallery
Every now and again we come across an old photograph that seems to cry out to be
mounted, framed and hung on a wall.
We have amassed a small collection of old photographs that hark back to a slower
and more peaceful way of life. Remember that any of the images in the postcard database
can also be enlarged and printed on A4 size paper for mounting.
We hope you enjoy them as much as we do. Click here to
view the gallery. All prints are produced on A4 photographic paper.

Old photographs are often faded, scratched or damaged in some other way. Most of
them can be enhanced to bring back some of the clarity and detail of the original.

All restored photographs are either printed on photographic paper, transferred to
CD or emailed to you. Prints are normally produced on standard 6"x4" photographic
